Purpose: The Global Medieval Studies Travel Award is designed to enhance the study of the global Middle Ages through experiential learning opportunities and fieldwork/research on places and artifacts from the period 500-1500 C.E., either in situ or in archival, library, or museum collections. Intensive language programs and independent travels or studies are also encouraged.

Eligibility: Global Medieval Studies majors and minors, including graduating seniors.

Award: Students may apply for one of the three award amounts of $500, $1,000, and $2,000. Between 1-3 merit-based grants will be awarded. Successful applicants will be notified by April 15.

Application: Students must submit an application by April 10th. It consists of a detailed description of the program or independent travel and study plans; your reasons for wishing to take this experience; budget; and two faculty references.

Past winners: Students in the past have used the travel to attend the Georgetown’s center in Zambia: the Africa Field School, and an independent program of travel to noted holy sites in Israel. You can read about their experiences here.
