My research interest is in life-writing from an interdisciplinary, transnational, diachronic and cross-cultural perspective. My dissertation on courtly biographies focused on life-writing as a medium for self-fashioning and social-mobility in the Castilian-Trastamaran court (1450-1550). Looking at texts produced in moments of crisis, I analyzed instances in which narratological and fictional devices engaged with gendered representations. I was a postdoctoral fellow at the Center for Medieval Literatures, a center of excellence funded by the Danish National Research Fund where I co-develop the interdisciplinary project Redes Petristas. Through a series of seminars, conferences and a co-edited volume, the project explored the life, reign and death of Peter the Cruel as well as the persistence of his presence in history writing, historical fiction, theater and poetry from the 14th to the 21st century.
In 2021 I was a postdoctoral fellow at the Faculty of English, German and Romance Languages at the University of Copenhagen where I focus my work on developing an Iberian Studies research group and taught a course on Women Writers in the Iberian Peninsula. I was the co-organizer of Conversations on Iberian Studies: Challenges and Opportunities which explore the field in Scandinavian Academia.
I joined the faculty of the Modern Languages Department at Durham University between 2022 and 2024, and it was there where my interest in life-writing intersected with Food Studies leading to my current projects on Life-writing from a comparative perspective and on Food memories as tool for reassessing culinary cultural heritage in Europe.
I am a consultant for the Horizon Europe grant RELISH (Reframing European Gastronomy Legacy Through Innovation, Sustainability and Heritage) where I implement Food Memories workshops on life-writing for emerging adults (18-25) in collaboration with Roskilde University in Denmark, University of Milan, Atlantic Technological University in Galway, Ireland and University of Alicante in Spain.
I teach intensive basic, intermediate and advanced courses for the Department of Spanish and Portuguese. I also teach Spanish literature and culture, Food and Culture in the Global Hispanophone and Food, Memory and Storytelling in the Global and Comparative Literature Program.
